Seasonal Changes of Cloths

1
Hydrangea macrophylla, which are now flowering fully in my garden.

Not only petals of the cherry blossom

but blue pedals of hydrangea also fall fluttering.

2
Flowers, that talk to step stones in this season year after year.

3
Kaleidoscopic color of Hydrangea

4
The stone looks like the main player, doesn't it?

Flowers are minor payers. Thanks for your work.

Seasonal changes of clothes sounds like difficult. What did they called this in olden days?

Today, we change cloths seasonally from June 1.
I guess that June 1 is around April 29 according to the lunar calendar

Gowning

Custom that started from Heian era. The official title of a court lady
with the duty of the Emperor's spare clothing is also called gowning,
It comes to point out those who rank second to the court lady
who serves the Emperor's bed behind.
Among the people, it is not called a gowning,
but came to call it "Seasonal change of cloths."

Seasonal change of cloths were done o June 1 and Oct. 1 from Edo era,
the government office, the company, etc. followed it after Meiji era.

5
Today, in the practice at the grand tea master's place,
people changed kimonos, belts and some others.
This is a summer belt of a friend of mine.

6
The practice of Daisu tea serving manner has started.

7
A tea bowl has returned back from a guest,
and the tea bowl is being washed with water.

8
Guests have the honor of seeing tea utensils.
The host answers for questions from guests.
The host is Youka Y like fragrant blossoms.
Just in case, I would say, she is married (unfortunately!)
She is a carrier lady, and a licensed class 1 architect.
She is a modern and kind lady who loves her parents.

Yes, all women here are the same for the last section.

9
This is a senior woman wearing my old summer belt.
A close friend of mine, Sofuku I who was in the previous photo
with the belt took this photo.

This is a belt handed me down from my deceased mother.
It is designed by Mitsuhiko Otani, and made by Tatsumura in Kyoto.

10
An old shot. Showed this, as the kimono is the same one.
It is the photograph of recollections from the summer in 2001.

11
Hydrangea shows faintly pink at tokonoma of Totsutotsusai in the morning.
(Sorry for not showing the natural color in the photo.)

It is really hydrangea. June 1 did start like this.

We wish you have great time!
